Job Description
LHH is looking for a full-time Payroll Accountant to join our client growing company in Seattle, WA. This position will be a 6-month contract that is fully onsite at the client location.
Job Summary :
The Payroll Accountant is responsible for overseeing payroll-related accounting processes to ensure accurate payroll data and compliance with financial regulations. This role involves preparing, reconciling, and analyzing payroll accounts, supporting payroll processing, and maintaining adherence to tax laws and company policies. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting skills, attention to detail, and in-depth knowledge of payroll and tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities :
Payroll Processing and Accounting
Oversee payroll processing in collaboration with payroll specialists, ensuring timely and accurate payroll runs.
Calculate and record payroll entries in the general ledger, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
Manage payroll-related accounts, including wages, bonuses, deductions, and benefits, and ensure proper account coding and allocations.
Reconciliation and Analysis
Reconcile payroll-related accounts, including payroll taxes, garnishments, benefits, and withholdings, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reconciliations to support accurate financial reporting and audits.
Analyze payroll costs and trends, providing reports and recommendations to management for budgeting and cost-saving initiatives.
Tax Compliance and Reporting
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations by preparing and submitting payroll tax filings and related reports.
Maintain accurate records of employee tax withholdings, FICA, and other payroll-related tax liabilities.
Assist with year-end reporting requirements, including W-2s, 1099s, and other regulatory documents.
Audit Support
Prepare payroll records and documentation to support internal and external audits.
Work closely with auditors, providing information and assistance as required for payroll and financial audits.
Review and enhance payroll processes to ensure audit compliance and reduce risk.
System Management and Improvement
Support payroll system upgrades and enhancements, assisting in testing, data validation, and troubleshooting.
Collaborate with IT and HR departments to streamline payroll accounting processes, increase automation, and improve data accuracy.
Employee Support
Address escalated payroll-related questions from employees, providing accurate and timely responses.
Assist in training and supporting payroll team members on payroll accounting best practices and system use.
Qualifications :
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
Experience : 3+ years of experience in payroll accounting or general accounting, with a strong understanding of payroll processing and tax compliance.
Skills :
Strong knowledge of payroll accounting principles, tax regulations, and general ledger reconciliations.
Proficiency in payroll and accounting software (e.g., ADP, Paycom, or SAP) and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Effective communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications :
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
Experience with multi-state payroll processing and international payroll tax compliance.
Knowledge of accounting standards (GAAP or IFRS).
Compensation: $30-$35/hour DOE
