Position Summary:

The Patient Pre-screener in Clinical Research is responsible for evaluating potential participants for clinical trials. This role involves conducting pre-screening assessments, reviewing medical history, and ensuring that prospective patients meet study inclusion and exclusion criteria. The Patient Pre-screener works closely with the Clinical Research Coordinator and team to streamline recruitment, ensure data integrity, and enhance the overall experience for patients considering participation in clinical research.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Screening and Assessment:
   • Conduct pre-screening calls to assess patient eligibility based on protocol-specific criteria.
   • Review patient medical histories and current health status to determine preliminary eligibility for specific studies.
   • Complete documentation of the pre-screening process, ensuring accurate and thorough data entry into the electronic health record (EHR) or clinical trial management system (CTMS).
2. Communication and Coordination:
   • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients regarding the purpose, potential risks, and benefits of participating in clinical research.
   • Collaborate with Clinical Research Coordinators and investigators to schedule further assessments or screening visits for qualified patients.
   • Provide patients with general information about the clinical research process and answer any questions related to study participation.
3. Data Management and Compliance:
   • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all regulatory and institutional guidelines (e.g., GCP, HIPAA).
   • Ensure documentation meets regulatory and protocol requirements, maintaining complete and accurate patient records.
   • Report any discrepancies or issues to the Clinical Research Coordinator promptly.
4. Continuous Improvement and Training:
   • Attend training sessions and updates on protocol-specific criteria and recruitment strategies.
   • Assist in refining pre-screening processes and workflows to improve recruitment efficiency and patient experience.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience in healthcare, patient services, or clinical research preferred.
• Skills:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex information in a patient-friendly manner.
  • Detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in using EHR and CTMS software; experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is essential.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical research principles is an advantage.
